Roger Bacon (n. 1214 – 1294) oli englantilainen fransiskaanifilosofi, joka painotti huomattavasti empiirisyyttä sekä matematiikan hyödyntämistä luonnontieteissä, koska ”vain matematiikka kertoo yksiselitteisesti totuuden”. Näistä syistä häntä pidetään yhtenä varhaisimmista modernin tieteellisen metodin puolestapuhujista. Hän oli syvällisesti perehtynyt ajan filosofisiin ja tieteellisiin virtauksiin arabimaailmassa, tuon ajan kehittyneimmässä sivilisaatiossa. Myöhemmät tutkimukset ovat osoittaneet hänen olleen riippuvainen myös okkultisista ja alkemistisista perinteistä. Baconiin viitataan myös latinankielisellä nimellä Doctor Mirabilis .
